Area Rugs Celebrate & Style
Ultra Violet, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2018, has been the latest color trend to hit home fashions, including area rugs.
“Our team is fantastic at staying ahead of the curve on what colors and styles our customers want to feature in their homes,” noted Kelly Moore, senior vice president sales at Mohawk Home.
“We do a lot of research, including traveling to see what’s resonating with designers and customers in other corners of the world.”
Pantone Color of the Year
“For us, the Pantone Color of the Year report reaffirmed consumers craving for something bold after years of interiors being dominated by gray and soft neutrals,” she explained.
“This summer at Atlanta market, we released Meraki, a new Karastan collection of 13 woven designs that has a bohemian-chic feel that is so on trend right now, even across multiple generations. Its color palette is very rich and includes fuchsia, lime, teal, sapphire, aqua, and tangerine.”
Also answering Pantone’s Color of the Year, Nourison added Mina Victory Couture genuine fur throw rugs in lavender, reported Giovanni Marra, Nourison’s director of marketing and digital strategy.
What to Expect for 2019
“In 2019, we expect the demand for distressed detailing, colorful designs, and abstract, modern patterns to continue for area rugs,” Marra reported.
Some suppliers, however, are proceeding with caution. “This color can be difficult for the floor, but we have used it as accents in products such as in braids, American Legacy Primary Multi and Cutting Garden, which both have hints of violet as does Pebbles Gumballs,” explained Cameron Capel, president, sales and marketing, Capel Rugs.
Kaleen has introduced several rugs that use Ultra Violet and will add a broadloom style in 2019, according to Blake Dennard, senior vice president at Kaleen.
Despite some bolder color trends, Dennard said, “It’s not exciting but it’s still the grays. While the ‘out there,’ wild colors attract attention, what drives sales is the conservative earth tones.
