What is the best way to clean baby spit off a couch without leaving water marks?

As many of you know babies spit up.  And as you also know it gets EVERYWHERE!  It can be cleaned off of your upholstery fairly easy however.  There are two keys to making sure spit up doesn’t ruin your furniture.

The first thing you need to do is react to it as quickly as you possibly can.  Spit up can contain acid from a baby’s stomach which if left to sit for a long period of time could have the potential of pulling the color out of your upholstery and leaving that spot much  lighter than the rest of the upholstery no matter what you try on it.

The second part to this is water regulation and fanning.  Whenever I am spot cleaning at my house with a stain or spill like this I always work from the outside in on the spill to make sure I don’t spread it out any farther.

After I feel like I have gotten the stain out of that spot I look down and now I obviously have a huge water spot sitting there that has much potential to turn into a water ring.  What I have always done to make sure this doesn’t happen is I get my towel damp with fresh tap water.  I then start from the outside of the spill area and try to fan out the water so it fades instead of having a distinct ending point.  Your end result should fade right out.  Once you get the mark looking like this I generally take a hair dryer and try to dry the spot as much as possible.  After you get it to that point keep a fan on and check it the next day.  You may have to try this a couple times.  Basically you have to flush those water lines out with more water and try to dry it before the lines form.  If it gets to a point where you cant, or don’t feel comfortable trying to clean it anymore please give us a call as its always easier for us to do work with our machinery and vacuum power then it is you with a spotting rag.  Thanks!
