What can I do to help maintain my area carpets?

There are a couple different things you can do to help take out soil, and help prolong the life of your area carpets.  The first thing you want to make sure of is at least once a year you are rotating them.  This will help prevent walk patterns, and patterns from where your furniture sits.  The second thing you want to do is make sure to vacuum them at least once a week. This will pull much of the soil out of them as many area carpets are much thicker in fiber material then regular carpeting.  I would also recommend vacuuming the floor underneath the carpet as well so the soil that has fallen through wont go into the backing of your carpet.  The third thing I would do in the summer is take the area carpet outside depending on size, and hang it from a tree, clothes line, or even over a deck railing.  you will want to use some tool to beat the carpet for a little while to make as much dirt and or sand imbedded into the carpeting to fall out.  After this depending on the carpet you can even hose it down but that is based on manufacture’s stipulations, and carpet material make up.  Don’t try this part until you make sure you know it wont shrink your carpet.  If you are to nervous, or don’t have the time to figure out the water cleaning capability you could also take a product like Febreeze and spray the carpet down to leave it with a nice clean smell going back into your home.
