As we all know winters in upstate NY have the potential to be brutal. Many of the companies in our area like to switch to portable machines in the winter for many reasons. We stick with the truck mount since we have been working with it for so long, and we know that if we can escape any mishaps with freezing etc the truck mount will always give our customers the best cleaning results possible. Some of the things that can go wrong(but we can prevent) include:
-Frozen solution lines. This can always be a problem as the solution line is ran from the truck to the furthest point of any household when you start a job. this piece is only about 1/2 inch thick, and is filled with water. Many companies run into problems with this part. We have a couple of little tricks that we do to help prevent running into this job ending, and expensive problem. Whenever the temperature is under the freezing point the first thing we do is turn the machine on right when we open the doors. That’s one of the biggest things we have to do because if you can get the water particles inside of the solution line to have pressure on them they will start moving back and forth taking them much longer to freeze then if they were still.
-Another thing we do is when we are setting up the job we will have one person inside of the house pre-spraying the carpets while the other person is finishing bringing in the hoses. This takes the colder water out of the lines, and also gets the water hot in the lines from the coils inside of the truck.
-Another little trick you can do if it is your first job of the day, and your lines are cold etc is plug the solution line into a wand turn the machine on and just spray it through the wand outside until the solution line gets hot. If you can feel heat coming through the line then you should be good as these pieces are lined with metal strands to help keep heat in as well.
– As always there is only a certain extent we can work to. If it gets into negative weather some days we will have to say we can’t do it as that is near impossible.
