Mop and Bucket: Enemies of Stone and Tile Floors

This article brings up a common mistake made by many homeowners:

Is that bucket of dirty mop water making your grout impossible to clean?

Do you find it difficult to keep your tile or stone floors clean? Maybe it’s dealing with the grout that’s the problem.

Grout is far more difficult to keep clean than the surface of the floor itself. Often no matter how much you mop, grout can continue to look … dingy.

Don’t blame yourself. Whether you’re using a traditional mop, a mop with a disposable cleaning pad, a broom or even your vacuum, you might find it impossible to get the results you’d like.

Even though your tiles are getting cleaner, your grout is getting dirtier!

Consider the process:

● You fill the bucket with clean water.

● As you mop, you watch that water turn gray, then darken, then finally get nothing short of filthy.

● By the end of the process, you’re spreading black water all over your tile floor. You may even be scrubbing it deep into the grout lines, creating your own problem.

That dirty water pools up in your grout, evaporates and leaves behind only the dirt. Even if your grout is sealed, you’re still going to re-soil it if you’re using a traditional mop and bucket. The dirt may stay closer to the surface on sealed grout, but it’s still going to be there.

If your grout is soiled, the only way to clean it is with some good old-fashioned elbow grease. You can clean it yourself with commercially available grout cleaning products, or you can give us a call and we can take care of the whole process for you. Just remember – put that mop and bucket away next time!
