Commercial Adhesives

Also called construction adhesives, this type of glue can be difficult to remove, so make sure you always try to protect your carpets as best as you can before starting projects using this adhesive.

Removing Commercial Adhesive from Carpets

  • The best thing you can do is to try to freeze the adhesive using some ice cubes in a plastic bag.
  • Next, try to break it away once the adhesive has frozen.
  • Finally, use a recommended adhesive solvent and follow the directions closely.

Fingernail Glue

Similar to superglue, the main chemical ingredient, cyanoacrylate, cures almost instantly.

One of the worst things you can do is to panic and start wiping the glue. This will only spread it further, so make sure it dries completely before trying to remove it.

  • After the glue is gone, mix a solution of one cup warm water, one teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent, and two tablespoons of distilled water.
  • Dip a clean white cloth, paper towel, or sponge in the solution and give the area a quick scrub.
  • Blot with a clean cloth dipped in plain water to rinse.
  • Allow the stained area to air dry.

Hot Glue

Although hot glue guns and sticks are a crafter’s best friend, it’s important to craft somewhere other than on your carpet.

Removing Hot Glue from Carpet

The easiest way to remove this glue is to freeze with ice cubes. After freezing chip away at the hardened glue to remove it from the carpet fibers.
