Everyone always asks us right away when they want their stairs carpet cleaned if we can get the dark edge on the front of the stairs back to its original color. Sometimes we can but most of the time its not just soiling that has taken place with you carpet fibers, its actually a decrease in the length of fibers. If you think about it every time you go up the stairs you generally land with half of your foot off of the edge of the stair. Every time you do this those fibers are getting matted down and shortened in length. Not to mention most people walk on the side near the railing too for extra support in case of a slip or fall. This means you are literally stepping in the same spot hundreds of times a week.No matter what kind of carpet you have there is going to be some sort of damage done by doing this. The best thing you can do is keep up on the maintenance of your carpet by having us come in and pull the fibers back to whatever length we can get them as well as removing the soil from them. You also can attempt to walk on a different part of the stairs. It will feel awkward for a while but will help your carpets in the long run.
