We see this all the time. When people don’t use plastic pads or other methods under their computer chairs it can cause carpet bubbling.
- What happens is over time the continuous motion wears out the underlying adhesive causing it to release, and the carpet above to bubble.
- It can get to the point where the carpet is so beat up there is no fiber left.
- Sometimes you need to patch the carpet in that spot.
- Sometimes you can needle inject glue into the backing to hold it all down.
- Also when we clean it can cause problems because it is much easier to have water settle in the underlying area where the carpet bubbled up. This can cause odor, mold, mildew and other things.
- We suggest to use either the plastic pad, or the newest one on the market which is a bamboo pad.
- Another thing we have seen people do is when the carpet gets to this point they will cut that area out of the carpet, and put in a square of laminate or wood etc to prevent this from happening again.
