There are many different types of fabrics out there that are used to create your carpets in your homes. Each one of these fabrics cleans differently, and can impact the life span of the carpets in your household. The first fabric I want to talk about is wool. As many people in the carpet cleaning industry know wool is a very resilient fabric. It cleans well because it can take a lot of pressure, and vacuum suction. There are a couple bad things about wool however.
For one thing wool carpet tends to smell like a wet dog once cleaned. The smell does go away once the carpet fibers dry, but this smell can also make other animals mark their territory in your home thinking that another animal marked it as their spot.
Another fiber on the market is nylon. If Nylon is up kept on a regular 8 month to yearly basis it cleans very well because of its elasticity and its ability to go back to its normal length, even in high traffic areas. Now in saying that i’m not saying it will last forever and be able to be saved no matter how bad the soiling or traffic but today’s nylon fibers have a much higher endurance than the fibers of the past.
Also during the carpet cleaning process is shows our lines the most and makes your room look like one out of a carpet cleaning magazine. There is one thing about nylon that we carpet cleaners hate. If you have an animal that has stomach issues and is vomiting, or urinating on your carpet the acid in these bodily fluids tends to take the pigment out of nylon faster then other materials. The third fabric I would like to talk about today is polyester. This is going to be the type of carpet you would want to have if you have the animal urination/vomiting problem because it will be much more resilient to the loss of pigment problem. However this carpet is much less resilient to walking patterns. This is the type of carpet I would suggest to someone who lives alone with lots of pets and not a ton of human foot traffic(especially with soiled shoes)
